The work of BFF is dynamic. Below is a selection of strategies currently being implemented:

Safe drinking water and sanitation

The BFF together with the Rotary International, Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Case Western Reserve University and Chiang Mai University provided safe drinking water to five schools and four dormitories for ethnic children in Prao, Mae Ai, Wiang Haeng and Chiang Dao districts in Chiang Mai province and Mae Chan district in Chiang Rai province. About 2,200 children benefited from this activity. Half of them are stateless children (children who lives near the border areas and have no Thai ID cards – the application process is difficult and time consuming – BFF provides support with this).

Education & Training

The BFF are supporting more than 250 children in terms of education and housing during school semesters. Many of these children do not have Thai citizenship and are not allowed to go to schools in Thailand. BFF does not only sponsors them financially, but we are also seeking an application for Thai citizenship for the children so that they have an access to basic infrastructure.

In terms of training, the BFF works with ethnic youth in urban Chiang Mai. We organized training in moral and ethical behaviors, and basic laws at least twice a year. BFF also organises an agricultural sustainable living training for hill tribe children and adults. The first module training was kicked off in October 2011.

Child at risk program

The BFF are looking after more than 250 children in rural areas of northern Thailand - Myanmar border. We partner with national and international organizations to improve nutrition and housing conditions. Our key challenge is regular funding to support those activities.

Youth network in the Mekong Region

The BFF led the establishment of Mekong Ethnic Youth Network. The Network's first seminar was organized at Kha Yaen Pattana village, Mae Fah Luang district, Chiang Rai province during 29-31 May 2010. The seminar attracted 62 participants from Thailand, Myanmar, China and Laos plus observers from Canada and Australia.

Study visit

The BFF arranged a study visit in Mae Chan district, Chiang Rai province for 50 participants of Youth Exchange Program from Rotary International (District 3360) from more than 10 countries.

Culture

The BFF joined force with local organizations and coordinated a Lahu Cultural Festival in Chiang Mai province during 15-16 January 2010. Almost 4,000 people attended the event.

Exposure visits

The BFF seeks to inform the community (local, national and international) about the work of the BFF. Many visitors from USA, Canada, Singapore and Australia, plus university students from the international program at Chiang Mai University, have learnt about children's rights, youth education and livelihood development.

Relief operation

The BFF provided relief packages including dry food, toiletries and clothes to fire victims in Nam Roo village, Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai province.
